Github Actions

  • simple icons on github for icons
  • Github actions are free up to about 2000 in private repos and no logic limitations
  • Create a yaml file for the actions, similar to azure pipelines or gitlab-ci
  • Use actions as an automation platform
  • Git scraping. Track changes to the data overtime
  • Languages used by file size . Can use actions to create dynamic readme elements (worth looking at for the testing suite)
  • Home automation by hooking into IoT APIs, such as turning on a light when a build fails
  • Tips
    • Set timeout minutes in an action so that it doesnt burn through billable hours
    • Use concurrency to avoid multiple actions running at the same time If you merge two changes that get deployed nearly at the same time, you might have a race condition where the older version ends up overwriting the newest version
